Social Program: Half-day tour in Cefalù
and social dinner
30-Apr-12
- Starting on the afternoon
of Sept. 5, you
will be able to explore the ancient Norman town of Cefalù, one
of the better kept examples of Norman architecture; this town is famous
for its two storey Cathedral which dominates the rooftops.
Imposing and attractive, the building's interior is
decorated with lovely mosaics dating back to 1138. A large portrait of
Christ on a gold background dominates the apse, above the Madonna,
archangels and Apostles. It truly is a magnificent building and well
worth visiting.
Back in town visitors can also admire the picturesque
harbour, alleys and other medieval buildings. A Saracen wash-house, the
Lavatoio is another sight worth seeing, as is the medieval Osterio
Magno, the remaining part of a large 13th-century palace.
Conference delegates are warmly encouraged to
take
part into this splendid social tour. The
Conference service company has
agreed to offer a special 110 Eur tariff for the tour, including
transportation from and to the hotel.
Gala Dinner: Sicilian cuisine
On
the evening of the same day a banquet dinner based on
Sicilian cuisine and time-honoured recipes will be served in
Cefalù. The menu
indeed will be Sicilian specialties matched with local wines. Apart
from its architectural and historic importance, Sicily is a goldmine of
culinary and cultural delights.
Conference delegates are warmly encouraged to take
part into the social dinner.
